1. Is Shopify Worth The Money?

Prima facie, it may look like Shopify is a bit pricey.

But, there’s no match to Shopify’s super-powerful features. They make selling online look so easy.

You don’t have to worry about complicated stuff like server maintenance, setup, backup, security, etc. Shopify magically works out-of-the-box. It’s like a plug-and-play solution.

The cheaper solutions out there generally come with limits like number of visitors, number of products, complicated setup, little security, etc. But with Shopify, you can scale your eCommerce store without fearing downtime or outage. Yes, all Shopify plans come with unlimited bandwidths & unlimited number of products.

Here’re a few things that make Shopify stand out from it’s competitors:

  • Super fast site speed (You don’t need CDN)
  • Enterprise-class security & backup
  • Rich eco-system of powerful apps & themes
  • Multiple selling channels supported
  • Unlimited bandwidth & products support
  • Custom domain name & theme
  • Super easy to get started

In fact, as per a statistics, there’re a whopping 1000000 Shopify merchants in 2022. They all can’t be wrong.

2. Is Shopify Too Expensive?

Again it’s all about the trade-off between features & price.

If you want a best-in-class eCommerce builder then Shopify is a no-brainer. The benefits that you get by selling on Shopify simply outweighs the price.

You can recover your fixed monthly Shopify fee (22 pounds) simply by selling a couple of products.

And, as far as transaction fees are concerned, they’re variable in nature. So, you don’t need to pay the same until unless you make a sale.

Since you’re based in the UK, transaction fees can be avoided by opting for Shopify Payments (more on this later).

3. How Much Does It Cost To Setup Shopify?

No, there’s no setup cost involved. In fact, there’s no setup involved. All you need to do is create an account, connect your custom domain, install a theme, upload your product & you’re good to go.

4. Does Shopify Fees Include VAT?

There’s no clarity regarding this on the Shopify UK website. So, I spoke to Shopify customer support for clarification.

Good news: Presently, they don’t charge anything extra over their stated price as taxes. So, no extra VAT. It’s included in their price.

5. Which Shopify Plan Is The Best?

It depends. If you’re just starting out, pick the Shopify basic plan. It’s more than enough for a new eCommerce store.

As your store grows, you can upgrade to either Shopify or Advanced Shopify plan for lower transaction fees & better shipping rates.

But if you’re an established eCommerce store & looking to switch to Shopify then look at your traffic numbers. If they’re more than 10,000 visitors a day then go for Shopify plus. Or else, stick to Shopify basic plan.

6. Does Shopify Charge For Refunds?

If you happen to refund an order for any reason, then Shopify will reverse the transaction fees & credit the same to your account.

Click here to know more about the refund & cancellation process on Shopify.

7. What Are Shopify Payments?

In Shopify, you can select your preferred methods of accepting payments from your customers like:

  • Credit cards
  • Debit cards
  • Internet banking
  • PayPal
  • Cash-on-delivery
  • Bank deposits
  • Checks, etc.

These aforesaid payment options will be shown to your customers during checkout. Fine?.

Now, for accepting cards or online payments, you’ll have to open an account with third-party payment organizations like Stripe, PayPal, Authorize, etc. & enter their credentials in the Shopify admin.

Alternatively, you can avoid the aforesaid hassle by simply opting for Shopify Payments. With it, you can accept all major payment instruments & methods without opening an account with any third party!.

Also, with Shopify Payments, you won’t be charged transaction fees.

So, here’s the summary:

If you don’t accept payment via Shopify payments: Pay credit card processing fee + transaction fees

If you accept payment via Shopify payments: Only pay credit card processing fee.

8. How Does Shopify Billing Work?

Shopify billing cycle starts the day your free trial ends.

Example: You start your free trial on 14th June, 2020. On 28th June, 2020, Shopify will charge 22 pounds & bill the same to you for a period of one month (29th June to 28th July). Again on 28th July, Shopify will charge the same amount for the next cycle (29th July to 28th September). Of course, transaction fees will be extra.

9. What Percentage Does Shopify Take From A Sale?

It depends.

For the basic Shopify plan, the transaction fee charged is 2%. For the Shopify plan, it’s 1% & for the advanced Shopify plan, the rate is 0.5%.

*You can avoid the transaction fee by opting for Shopify payments (available to UK merchants).

14. How Can I Avoid Transaction Fees In Shopify?

If your store is located in one of the supported countries (UK is included), then you can avoid the transaction fees simply by accepting payments from customers via Shopify Payments.

If you use Shopify payments then you don’t need to pay the transaction fees. In that case, you’ll only pay the credit card processing fee (which you’ve to bear in any case).

You can simply cancel your store from the Shopify admin itself.

Go to the Accounts page or option & select ‘Close your store’ option.

Once your store is closed, you won’t have access to your Shopify admin. Fair enough.

As the subscription is charged monthly (in advance), you won’t be refunded anything. And, on contrary, if an amount is pending from your end, Shopify will send you one final invoice after your store closure.

16. Are There Any Discounts Available On Annual Payments?

Yes, you’ll be getting a discount of 10% if you decide to pay one year in advance.

And, a discount of 20% if you decide to pay for two years in advance.
